How to Clean Your Dog’s Ears at Home

Restrain your dog: If your dog is resistant to having its ears handled, you may need to use gentle restraint. You can have an assistant hold your dog gently but firmly, or use a wrap or restraint to keep your dog still.

Clean the outer ear: Dab a small amount of ear cleaner onto a cotton ball or gauze sponge and gently squeeze the liquid into the outer ear and ear canal. Avoid inserting the cotton ball or gauze too far into the ear canal as this can cause injury or discomfort.

Massage the ear: Gently massage the base of your dog’s ear to help loosen any debris or wax in the ear canal. This action can also help distribute the ear cleaner.

Wipe away the debris: Use a clean cotton ball or gauze sponge to wipe away any debris or excess ear cleaner from the ear. Dispose of the used cotton balls or gauze sponges appropriately. With a lightly saturated clean cotton ball or gauze sponge, gently clean the outer ear by wiping away any visible debris.

Dry the ear: Use a towel or gauze sponge to gently dry your dog’s ear. Be careful not to leave any moisture in the ear canal.

Repeat on the other ear: Repeat the process on the other ear. Ensure to use a new cotton ball or gauze sponge for each ear.
